About Me

Welcome to my page, I’m Melisha Lawrence. I have worked in the mental health sector for over five years, supporting adults who have been diagnosed with mental health disorders, such as Schizophrenia and anxiety disorders, at times in combination with substance misuse.

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working in private practice and within the NHS. Prior to this, I worked in a range of low-cost counselling services.  I work on a short-term and long-term basis with clients aged 18+ who come from a variety of different backgrounds. I am passionate about my work with clients and I am committed to providing a professional yet meaningful service.

I am BACP registered which means I comply with a professional ethical framework and guidelines for good practice.  As a commitment to my continuous professional development, I complete additional training and regularly attend workshops, in line with the BACP requirements. I am listed on The Black African and Asian Therapy Network (BAATN) therapist directory and Counselling Directory.

My Approach

I practise an integrated model of counselling. This means I draw on various  theories to help you find your way forward. At the heart of my practise lies the person-centred philosophy; meaning I empathically listen with a non-judgemental attitude and believe that we all have the ability to grow and develop. My psychodynamic thinking and reflections allow me to consider your past and present experiences and relationships – from your early childhood years until the present day – and recognise any links and/or repeated patterns. In addition to this, my practise may introduce CBT techniques, when appropriate. CBT provides the tools to help recognise and link thoughts to feelings and behaviour, and can be particularly useful when working with anxiety or depression.

My approach is tailored to each unique client and their needs, ensuring that a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship is at the core of the work.
